Chef Michael Mansfield

Hospitality has always been part of Chef Michael Mansfield’s story.

As a second-generation hospitality professional, Michael’s career has been shaped by family influence, culinary excellence, military leadership, entrepreneurship, and decades of hands-on operating experience.

Today, he brings that experience together through Mansfield Hospitality Group, a company built to create, operate, develop, and partner across the hospitality ecosystem.

Family Hospitality Legacy

Hospitality has been part of Michael Mansfield’s life from the beginning. He grew up watching his mother build and operate one of Texas’ largest event and catering companies over nearly four decades, serving families, major institutions, and notable clients.

From her example, Michael learned the foundation of his career philosophy: hospitality is not simply about what you serve, but how you make people feel.

Culinary Education & Military Career

Michael began his formal culinary education at The Culinary Institute of America in the early 2000s.

Following September 11, 2001, Michael stepped away from his culinary journey to serve his country. What began as a temporary change in direction became a 17-year career in the United States Marine Corps, including service within the special operations community.

His military experience shaped his leadership approach, emphasizing preparation, discipline, accountability, adaptability, teamwork, and developing others. It also reinforced his belief that thoughtful leadership and finesse can achieve what force cannot.

After completing his military career, Michael returned to The Culinary Institute of America to complete his culinary studies and earn a bachelor’s degree in Food Business Leadership.

Professional Culinary Career

Michael’s culinary career has spanned fine dining, luxury hospitality, independent restaurants, private dining, catering, restaurant ownership, and concept development.

One of his most influential experiences was his longstanding relationship with The French Laundry in Yountville, California, where he spent more than sixteen years working seasonally within the standards and culture established by Chef Thomas Keller.

That experience shaped his belief that excellence is built through consistency, intentionality, attention to detail, and respect for the craft.

Michael’s professional development has included becoming a Certified Executive Chef, completing his ProChef certification, becoming a Certified Beef Expert, and developing extensive experience in butchery, whole-animal utilization, culinary leadership, menu development, and restaurant operations.

Mansfield Restaurant Group to Mansfield Hospitality Group

Michael’s experience as a chef, operator, business owner, and entrepreneur showed him that exceptional hospitality extends beyond a single restaurant or dining experience. It requires the alignment of food, people, leadership, culture, service, and business.

This vision became the foundation for Mansfield Restaurant Group, which expanded beyond restaurants into catering, events, private dining, consulting, concept development, operations, partnerships, and brand development.

As the company evolved, it became Mansfield Hospitality Group, reflecting Michael’s broader vision of hospitality as an interconnected ecosystem of restaurants, experiences, brands, partnerships, and operations.

Through Mansfield Hospitality Group, Michael and his team create concepts, develop hospitality experiences, support businesses, cultivate leaders, and pursue new opportunities throughout the industry.

Chef Michael's Philosophy

20/10/20

Michael’s 20/10/20 philosophy reflects the lessons gained from decades as a chef, operator, entrepreneur, and leader.

At its core is a belief in balance: exceptional food, strong leadership, healthy culture, disciplined operations, sustainable business practices, and genuine hospitality should work together to create lasting success.

Hospitality Philosophy

Throughout every stage of his career, Michael’s philosophy has remained consistent:

Hospitality is about people.

It means building strong teams, maintaining meaningful standards, respecting the craft, understanding the business, and never forgetting the person receiving the experience.

From his family’s hospitality roots, to the Marine Corps, professional kitchens, restaurant ownership, entrepreneurship, Mansfield Restaurant Group, and Mansfield Hospitality Group, Michael’s purpose has remained the same:

Take care of people. Create something meaningful. Leave it better than you found it.

Because great hospitality is not simply something you provide.

It is something people feel.
